What you need to know about Seminole Chip

At Everglades, we understand the importance of investing in your home’s landscape. Maintaining an aesthetically appealing landscape will increase the value of your home for years to come and it will make it a great place to come home to and entertain guests. Seminole chip rock is a decorative rock native to Florida with a natural reddish brown color that can pair perfectly with most any landscape and especially around a pond or flower bed. Seminole chip rock is also a popular choice for landscapers because of its superior moisture retention and weed suppressing properties. Everglades is committed to partnering with suppliers that engage in sustainable practices in order to bring you top quality products.

Seminole Chip Rock has a unique surface that is porous and vividly colored that adds a special element to any landscape. The reddish brown color when paired with green plants creates a naturalistic contrast that is photogenic. This distinct feature and its wide use in preserves and tribal aesthetics brings to the mind’s eye imagines of an open landscape. Seminole chip is used in aquascapes since it has a unique color and non-reactive properties. Seminole chip is a premium product which is more expensive than our organic mulch products, however it has advantages in not only aesthetic appeal but also its durability and functionality. Seminole chip does not need to be replaced nor replenished yearly due to decomposition. Also, Seminole chip does not react with water so it will not deposit any chemicals into your landscape’s soil allowing you to control what fertilizers are present in your landscape. Additionally, unlike our wood mulch products, pests like beetles and terminates do not like living in rock environments so they tend not to spread through landscape features that use lava rock.

Applying a three to five-inch layer of Seminole rock is ideal to enjoy the practical benefits of Seminole rock. A correctly applied layer of inorganic mulch blocks direct sunlight from reaching your soil. This lowers the temperature of your soil that reduces the amount of water your landscape loses to evaporation. This lowers your landscapes water requirements which saves you money. Additionally, blocking sunlight from reaching your soil acts as a weed preventative. Weeds that germinate on the surface on your soil will have to grow through the layer of Seminole rock to reach sunlight. If the layer is three to five-inches deep the weed will likely not survive. Naturally occurring soil erosion from wind and rainfall is also reduced by applying inorganic mulch. When your Seminole rock’s color beings to fade a good washing with a pressure washer will blast dirt from its porous surface and bring out its original color again.

We are excited to provide our customers with our stylish Seminole chip rock for their landscaping and decorative needs. We keep seminole chip rock in stock at our stores ready for instore pickup and delivery. We sell our Seminole chip rock by the 2 cubic foot bag or by the yard for those who have a large project.
